Draft — not yet reviewed by counsel.
Meet Before helps people meet at real-world events. That only works if you trust what we do with what you tell us. This page explains it in plain language.
The short version
- You control who sees your profile, your event participation and your presence. Defaults are conservative.
- Private notes and follow-ups are yours alone. No other user, organizer or administrator can read them.
- Presence is a status you set (“Available, main hall”). We do not collect GPS or background location.
- Organizers see aggregate analytics for their event. They never see your messages or who you connected with.
- We don’t sell your data, and we don’t show ads.
What we collect
Account
Your email address and, if you sign in with Google or GitHub, the name and avatar they share with us. We use this to sign you in and to send you the notifications you choose.
Profile
What you choose to add: display name, handle, headline, organization, role, location, what you’re building, what you’re looking for, what you can help with, interests, skills and social links.
Event participation
Which events you join, how your attendance was verified (for example, invite code or ticket), your per-event intents, sessions you save, and whether you checked in.
Presence
A status you set yourself during an event, such as “Available” and the zone you’re in. It is only what you type or tap. It expires on its own and you can clear it at any time.
Connections and messages
Connection requests, accepted connections, messages you exchange with people you’re connected to, meetings you propose, and “we met” confirmations.
Private notes and follow-ups
Notes you write about a person and reminders you set for yourself. These are stored so that only you can read them. We never show them to the person they’re about, to organizers or to anyone else.
Technical
Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps), an anonymous device identifier for push notifications if you turn them on, and product analytics events (for example “introduction viewed”) that help us understand what works.
How we use it
- To introduce you to relevant people at events you’ve joined. Our matching uses your profile, your intents and your event activity. Each introduction shows you the reasons it was made.
- To run the product: messaging, meetings, presence, recaps and notifications.
- To give organizers aggregate insight into their event’s networking.
- To keep the platform safe: rate limits, abuse detection, blocks and reports.
- To improve the product, using aggregate analytics.
Where we use AI models to write introduction explanations or power people search, we send only the fields needed for that request. Model providers are contractually prohibited from training on this data. If AI features are unavailable, the product falls back to deterministic matching and says so.
Your visibility controls
- Profile visibility: public, signed-in members only, or connections only.
- Discoverability per event: whether you appear in attendee lists and introductions for that event.
- Presence visibility: everyone at the event, your connections only, or nobody. Set each time you update your status.
- Who can request to connect: anyone at your events, people with mutual connections, or nobody.
- Past events: whether your event history appears on your profile.
Blocking someone hides you from each other everywhere in the product.
What organizers can see
Organizers and their staff see the attendee list for their own event (subject to your discoverability setting), aggregate networking analytics, and operational data such as check-ins and session saves. They cannot read your messages, your private notes, or see who you connected with.
Sharing
We share data with service providers who help us run Meet Before: hosting and database, email delivery, image storage, error monitoring, and AI model providers for the features described above. They process data on our instructions only. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users. We do not sell personal information.
Retention
We keep your account data while your account is active. Presence statuses expire within hours. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and debugging. When you delete your account, your profile, connections, messages, notes and follow-ups are deleted or irreversibly anonymized within 30 days, except where we must retain records for legal or safety reasons. Aggregate analytics that no longer identify you may be kept.
Your rights
From your account settings you can edit your profile, change every visibility control, export your data, and delete your account. Depending on where you live you may also have legal rights to access, correct, delete or port your data, or to object to certain processing. Write to us and we’ll help.
Children
Meet Before is not directed at anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the product or by email before it takes effect.
